The Business 40 (U.S. 421) Improvement Project, also referred to as U-2827B, includes removing, replacing, and improving pavement and ramps from west of 4th Street to east of Church Street in Winston-Salem. With the planning phase of the project now complete, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) anticipates awarding a design-build contract in July 2016.
Before the first phase of construction can begin, officials from the NCDOT will be contacting property owners in Winston-Salem to begin the right of way acquisition process. Home and business owners along the planned route may face seizure of all or some of their property. NCDOT has also hired a business liaison, Cassandra Herndon, to assist local business owners affected by construction.
